3rd place for Marko Kump in Zadar

Second stage of the CRO Tour has finished in Zadar, but due to rain riders couldn’t enjoy the beauty of Croatian coast as much as possible. Eduard-Michael Grosu won the stage and is new leader, Adria Mobil’s Marko Kump was third.

183 kilometers long stage from Slunj to Zadar finished with the sprint finish Zadar, just before that we also had a big group crash – luckily with no serious injuries. Adria Mobil cyclists were very active and defended their jerseys with honors. But Grosu did a great tactical maneuver in the very end and attacked at the right moment and won with big gap. Marko Kump was in the sprint for second place on the stage, on the end he took third.

Sports director Branko Filip: “The stage developed as expected. We let the riders in the break to take off and then control the race in the back. I contacted WorldTour teams during the race and asked them if they will help with the pace in front, but only Astana came to help. Team Bahrain – Merida did try to attack, but the wind wasn’t strong enough for success. Crash in Zadar’s suburbs was big, and we also had our riders on the ground – Gašper Katrašnik, Dušan Rajović & Jani Brajkovič. Nobody was hurt, which is good. Marko Kump didn’t found the best solution for the technically challenging sprint, but he still took excellent third place.”

Marko Kump has lost the race lead, but is still in the blue jersey for the best cyclist in the points competition.
