First stage of Tour of Rhodes was over 148 kilometers long, with lots of small climbs. They were concentrated in the middle part of the stage with start in Rhodes and finish in Maritsa, which is why we expected a sprint finish.
Dušan Rajović was the fastest in the last meters, but said right away that it was anything but easy: “What should I say, it was fast race from start to finish. Everybody was racing against us, and unlike others who have seven cyclists on the race there are only five of us. I was really hard, but all is good now. Thanks to my team I managed to take a victory today. I expect a an intense race again tomorrow, but we’ll not surrender for sure.”
This is second victory for Dušan in less then a week - he already won International Rhodes Grand Prix last Sunday.
Dušan is now also the overall leader of the race. Sports director Branko Filip said that is possible that the sprinters will battle for the overall victory, and if that is the case Dušan is now in the great position. Remaining stages are both hilly, but have both flat finish.
