First, 227 kilometers long stage already brought success for team Adria Mobil Cycling. Jon was in strong fighting spirits and was in the spotlight for the whole day. This is how Jon Božič described his day: “I decided that I will try to make a escape before the race even started. So four of us escaped right from the start, there were four of us. Myself and guys from teams Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum, Novo Nordisk and MsTina-Focus. We were working nicely together till 150th kilometer, when Nordisk rider decided he’ll wait for the peloton. Three of us were still working nicely, Emil Dima was the one that took the points for the mountains classification. But then he started to loos power. Grošelj, my colleague for the national team, and I did a strong attack and were left alone on the 190th kilometer. We’re riding at a high pace, we had a nice lead of two and a half minutes at 20 kilometers till the finish. But then I felt that Grošelj is also loosing strength and I went on my own in the last 13 kilometers. It wasn’t enough, the big group came from behind just three kilometers before the finish line. I won all intermediate sprints, so I have 9 seconds of time beneficiations and second place overall. I’m also in the white jersey of the best young cyclists. I’m happy with my performance and my form.”
Second stage from Karlovac to Zadar will be 234,5 km long, with mountain in the middle part. Watch it live on Eurosport!
